Stocks ended the week with a bang at the Friday closing bell. The NASDAQ led the charge with a 1.48 percent (34.04 points) gain, followed closely by the S&P 500 (1.40 percent, 15.72 points). The Dow Jones Industrial Average tagged along further behind, but it still gained 1.16 percent (122.06 points) on the day.

After an outstanding month of January, in which 20,000 jobs were created, the manufacturing sector was hit hard by the winter storms in February. Just 1,000 manufacturing jobs were created during the month, according to the report.

Bernard Madoff was all about cashing in, so now there is a rush to cash in on him. Are some of Madoff's investors -- who knew they were assuming substantial risk by placing money into a hedge fund -- trying to pull a fast one now? Some are asking that the calculation of their positions be altered in a way that could shower taxpayer subsidies on them, even if they lost nothing!

President Obama does not seem to understand that the single most important concern for most Americans is the vast and growing national joblessness. No one seems safe from the spreading collapse of work. Indeed almost 30 million Americans who want jobs cannot find one, and their ranks are growing by more than 15,000 workers per day.
